spin.com book club

a dear friend named emily zelmer and spin magazine have asked me to participate in a book club, i loved the idea instantly because it gives me a chance to read others favorite books, or at least books that have inspired them along the road. there are several great musicians that are involved and i feel honored to be among them.

the first book we read was "jesus's son" by denis johnson, a charming piece of literature that has lead me to begin to read more of johnsons works. to view the bookclub click here, there is even a way for you guys to comment after you have read the book.

even though i am apart of this bookclub i don't condemn or condone any of the books that we are asked to read, i am in this for education and inspiration value only.

speaking of books....

i have already bought you copies of my two favourite books that I plan to give you at the Dallas concert. I really hope you like them. I think you will.....

that is, if i can even make it to the concert. i have already bought tickets but i am having surgery two days prior, and a six hour drive is a little rough, but i will make it and it will be worth it. can't wait :).

I'll definitely make some time to try to read some of the books on the list.

By the way, that was an awesome show you guys had in SF just a few hours ago. :)

Speaking of books, next time you come to Portland on tour you should really try and check out the Powell's Books on West Burnside. It's amazing. It's like 3 stories and has everything, both new and used. It also has a great coffee shop. It's almost always busy and there's huge table in the middle where you're forced to sit by strangers, I've met some interesting folks, I don't know you at all, but I think you'd enjoy it. Remember the address, if you like books, you'll like Powell's.

not sure if you've read it before but i just finished an amazing book, "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller. It's probably the most real & down to earth book on faith i've ever come across. a definite life changer for me.

-random sidenote-
Miller is from Portland & gushes on about Powell's book store. so if you do ever get the chance you might wanna check it out.

it might be interesting to get a man's perspective on "Don't Call that Man" if you feel so inclined. don't worry--it's a short read

I read Jesus' Son. Talk about... mind bending. He's such a good writer, I seriously felt like I was on a whole lot of drugs reading his stories. I think it's so important to read books like that - that totally immerse you in another person's perspective - even if it is that of a someone who we wouldn't normally interact with.
